Pretty sure you guys have all been eagerly awaiting the return of the Indie Anna Blog, right? Well, your wait is finally over, at least until the end of this post. It's been a rough couple of months, seeing how just about every indie release has sucked mad ass. Hard to write a music blog when everything being released is garbage.
Luckily for us it looks like the drought might soon be coming to an end. The new year will be bringing with it Mine Is Yours, the third album from Indie Anna Blog favorite Cold War Kids. Get your first taste of Mine is Yours (courtesy of TheMusicNinja.com) below. Enjoy!
Last week I was going through my new downloads for the month looking for something to catch my ear. While listening to them, Corey made a mention of an artist that I should check out. His name is Jay Electronica. When looking for his music, his discography is sporadic at best. Releasing tracks on mixtapes (1 hour long tracks in fact) or tracks here and there released on various websites.
I found his "Victory" mixtape and listened to it completely. I am huge fan of Talib Kwali and Nas so with all the artists featured on his songs it was a great listen. His sound is very similar to Nas with some excellent beats behind his phenomenal lyrics.
Here are two outstanding tracks from that mixtape. His upcoming release is slated to forthcoming.
This Saturday is the @HoustonPress Music showcase. Always a great day to check out the local music scene plus the headlining acts that breeze through to play. Big changes this year. This year the showcase is going to be on Washington Avenue instead of the downtown venues. I dig the change. I am sure parking will be a beast like it always is, but it will be interesting crawling from club to club.
This years headliners features Matt and Kim. I am definitely interesting in catching them live.
As always the showcase is for the awards that are voted on by you the public. You can take a listen to some of the bands on the website. Check out mp3s from some of the acts here and see the lineup below.
As i travel, one of the first things i check out are the local radio stations. its more of a jealousy thing. (Is this town cooler than mine) Jump into the rental and start scanning stations.
Stop the scanning when I hear The Cure. I know. you'd think i heard "friday im in love" or "pictures of you". What i heard was "bloodflowers" which i haven't heard in a long time.
What i found was FM 94.9
From the airport to the hotel i heard:
Zero 7
Team Sleep
The Big Pink
Pinback
NIN
Beck
The Hold Steady
Not bad San Diego. you rock a decent radio station.
If you're here for the first time after hearing us on the 1560 The Game P1 Podcast, here's the quick rundown of a few bands we think you guys should be listening to.
After several years of playing shows, producing new sounds and great covers of Morrisey classics, Voidmate is finally releasing it's full length CD next month.
The most popular track "Erasing Machine" was featured on Poison Tree Records' compilation sampler: "Open Your Mind to the Music Vol I" back in 2006.
With heavy keyboard composition and mastered beats, the sound of Voidmate is fluid. Categorized as New Wave, Electro Pop. Categories aside, they are definitely worth a listen.

New Stars album being released on June 22, 2010. Stars will be performing at the Free Press Music Festival here in Houston on June 5-6. The single that is out for download is a promising intro to the new album. I dig it and can't wait for the entire release.
Mates of State are touring in promotion of their new Covers CD. While I am not entirely fond of the new album, I am always excited to see them play live.
